ART BLOG #03

Three Months of #LasVegas...

ART

As a child my parents were very supportive of my creative ideas. Since my Dad was talented with building things, he built me my first artist desk, seen here along with my first mural I painted on my bedroom walls... of a roller coaster!

Many years have passed since then and now I have a new desk, given to me as a gift from some very supportive friends of mine! I am so grateful for all of the people in my life who have encouraged me in my artistic pursuits.

Here are the 14 pages of sketches and step by step photos from the past 3 and a half months that I've researched, sketched, drawn and colored in my 26th "City Drawing" of #LasVegas!! I have been so enthralled with the city and it's history and am really proud of how it turned out. This is the first city drawing not to include a blue/daylight sky because I wanted to illustrate how Vegas is a huge, bright city surrounded by a desert!

Some times the most difficult part of my drawings is deciding where and how to place the buildings. For Las Vegas, I decided to place the older, iconic hotels on the bottom, make them larger in size and more vibrant.
In learning the history of the city, I learned that most of the older buildings were demolished to make room for larger, more flashy properties, this process was repeated multiple times for some locations. I wanted to include two buildings (The Frontier, in a state of demolition & El Rancho Vegas, the first casino in the city, which was infamously destroyed by a fire!)

...and now, a poem I wrote...
#RELENTLESS
A poem by Timothy McVain
In life we make dreams for ourselves
We build up great expectations
And then with a flash and thunderclap everything is changed.

When it feels like the sky is crashing down on us
And every time we make any attempt to go higher
We find ourselves falling further, faster towards the ground
And yet, still, we try.

Keep reaching towards that goal
To which you've set your sights with determination
Admit to yourself the difficulty in it's acquisition
And know there will be sacrifices
And sometimes you'll feel you've lost your way
But nothing can stop us now
When we are falling down at the speed of light
We will hit the ground and stand up, ready to fight.

THANK YOU as always for reading my blog and I hope to see you all at the event this Saturday!!

Behind the scenes of ART BLOG #01 "Dear Mr. Mayor..."

Last week I embarked on my most ambitious art project of the year... I sent out 10 letters to 10 city mayors along with a gift of an 11x14 "City Drawing" of their city. I will update you all when I hear back from them!

Current Progress of my latest "City Drawing" LAS VEGAS, Nevada!

This week, I'd like to share with you my current project which I've been working on for the past few months. Ever since I started to draw cities I've received requests to have greeting cards, postcards, t-shirts, puzzles, and other gift/souvenir type items made from my "City Drawings". I decided that it was time to try making these items a reality and it was really special for me to be able to hold in my hand a greeting card and puzzle with one of my drawings printed on it! It was like a dream come true and instantly my mind was full of ideas of how marketable this could be for ALL the cities I have drawn and will draw! My focus these past few years has been on selling prints of my art, but this moves me into a whole different area of exciting possibilities...

Below are examples of what I've purchased so far and what will soon be available at my ONLINE STORE

MUSIC

As you may remember from ART BLOG #01, I shared my goal of having my original songs recorded soon. Well, here is the unofficial list of songs! I'd also love to be able to perform these LIVE to a small intimate group of friends, but I'm not too sure how to go about either of these endeavors... as always, any advice or suggestions are appreciated!

And in case you'd like to hear a sampling of my music, take a listen below!
