ART BLOG #03

Three Months of #LasVegas...

ART

As a child my parents were very supportive of my creative ideas. Since my Dad was talented with building things, he built me my first artist desk, seen here along with my first mural I painted on my bedroom walls... of a roller coaster!

Many years have passed since then and now I have a new desk, given to me as a gift from some very supportive friends of mine! I am so grateful for all of the people in my life who have encouraged me in my artistic pursuits.

Here are the 14 pages of sketches and step by step photos from the past 3 and a half months that I've researched, sketched, drawn and colored in my 26th "City Drawing" of #LasVegas!! I have been so enthralled with the city and it's history and am really proud of how it turned out. This is the first city drawing not to include a blue/daylight sky because I wanted to illustrate how Vegas is a huge, bright city surrounded by a desert!

Some times the most difficult part of my drawings is deciding where and how to place the buildings. For Las Vegas, I decided to place the older, iconic hotels on the bottom, make them larger in size and more vibrant.
In learning the history of the city, I learned that most of the older buildings were demolished to make room for larger, more flashy properties, this process was repeated multiple times for some locations. I wanted to include two buildings (The Frontier, in a state of demolition & El Rancho Vegas, the first casino in the city, which was infamously destroyed by a fire!)

...and now, a poem I wrote...
#RELENTLESS
A poem by Timothy McVain
In life we make dreams for ourselves
We build up great expectations
And then with a flash and thunderclap everything is changed.

When it feels like the sky is crashing down on us
And every time we make any attempt to go higher
We find ourselves falling further, faster towards the ground
And yet, still, we try.

Keep reaching towards that goal
To which you've set your sights with determination
Admit to yourself the difficulty in it's acquisition
And know there will be sacrifices
And sometimes you'll feel you've lost your way
But nothing can stop us now
When we are falling down at the speed of light
We will hit the ground and stand up, ready to fight.

THANK YOU as always for reading my blog and I hope to see you all at the event this Saturday!!

  1. Only downsides here was that I’m not sure if they were expecting such a crowd as they did not have nearly enough servers and sometimes it would take a really long time for service guy to come. But at event halls for rent they tried to keep a smiles on their face.
